"To the medieval thinker, beauty was not a value independent of others, but rather the radiance of truth, the splendor of ontological perfection and that quality of things which reflects their origin in God. Light and luminous objects, no less than musical consonance, conveyed an insight into the perfection of the cosmos and a divination of the Creator.."- Otto Von Simson, The Gothic Cathedral

- The Philippinarum Studii Medioevalis Societas or Philippine Society of Medieval Studies (PSMS) was formally launched on December 13, 2006 at San Beda College to meet the following challenges:
* the failure of students to see the relevance of Medieval studies due to preconceived notions about the Middle Ages;
* the lack of historical awareness on the part of students regarding events surrounding Medieval cultures; and
* pedagogic challenges, such as the problem of presenting Medieval studies in classes and making it interesting to students.
To meet these challenges, the Society aims to fulfill the following objectives:
* to promote an interest in medieval studies, in its broad interdisciplinary and overarching sense;
* to serve as a venue for academic and intellectual enrichment to educators whose field of research and expertise is Medieval studies;
* to serve as a locus for dialogue and as a place of gathering for educators in Medieval studies as well as others who are interested in furthering their knowledge in this field and using their knowledge towards social transformation;
* to establish networks and intellectual exchange between Filipino educators of Medieval studies and their foreign counterparts; and
* to generate resources for the activities of the Society in pursuance of its objectives.
Given such, the Society is open to individuals or groups who wish to pursue the study of Medieval cultures for formal or personal study. Topics covered by such a study include and are not limited to medieval philosophy, art (including literature and music), history, politics, theology, and sociology (including medieval themes found in contemporary media such as film, television, and novels).
Planned activities include:
* book publications (including essays contributed by members);
* an annual (including reports on activities sponsored by the Society);
* events such as book discussions, open forums on medieval topics, and exhibitions; and
* educational projects to promote Medieval studies in various educational levels.
